Yesterday, 30 May 2009, was the 50th anniversary of PAP winning and taking control of the Legislative Assembly, which is the Parliament today. In 1959,

PAP won 43 out of the 51 seats, and has since governed Singapore since then. They took office officially on June 3 1959, with Lee Kuan Yew as the first Prime Minister of Singapore. For more information, you can look up on the Saturday section of the Straits Times.
